Roadside Grave: February

In the white is a name.
In the three worlds
it stands. Wind
sounds, a world of one
color.
Name spoken,
once,
in a darkening field;
name being stitched,
very small, in white thread
in white cloth.

 

Biography

FRANZ WRIGHT‘s Walking to Martha’s Vineyard won the Pulitzer Prize in 2004. With his father, James Wright (1927-1980), they are the only father and son to garner this award. His other volumes of poetry include God’s Silence (Knopf, 2006); Wheeling Motel (Knopf, 2009); and a forthcoming book of sixty-five prose pieces, Kindertotenwald (Knopf, 2011). His Earlier Poems (containing his first four books) also appeared from Knopf in 2008. Formerly poet-in-residence at Brandeis University for three years, he now lives in Waltham, Massachusetts.
