Switching Forever Between Two Directions / Toledo
We have divided everything and I will stay here.
At the top of an old fortress city, myriad canaries
change the dark to windows. Daybreak. Across
the bridge, blank egrets stalk the river with more luck
than travelers killing time on the banks beside make-
shift poles. This is as far as I go. On my way back,
a golden light’s gold hurries after the officials
who are bent in conversation over who will improve the past.
Have I mentioned my riches? Then I cover all the cages.
